Last Saturday, Energizer Philippines, in cooperation with GMA Kapuso Foundation, successfully staged the Metro Manila leg of the Energizer Night Race 2011, which was held at the grounds of Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig.
The successor to the local night races that were held in Cebu, Dagupan, and Davao, the Energizer Night Race in Taguig coincided with similar events in countries like the United States, Canada, South Africa, Argentina, Greece, and Singapore.
Thousands of participants joined the night race, each runner wearing an Energizer Headlight, creating a dazzling visual spectacle in the streets of BGC. It was noteworthy that Energizer headlights (including mine) lasted and stayed on even after the race, in spite of the drizzly atmosphere. Considerably the first of its kind to be held in Metro Manila, the race was divided into three categories according to distance, namely 3K, 5K, and 10K.
The night race, according to Energizer Brand Manager Joan Mendoza and Product Manager Fritzie Lee, will cap a four-leg extravaganza, with part of the proceeds to be donated to hearing-impaired children in Manila in partnership with the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc. Beneficiaries of the said event received hearing aids and Energizer Zero-Mercury hearing aid batteries, as part of Energizer’s global campaign “Positive Energy”.
"Energizer Philippines Inc. recognizes and promotes hearing as vital for the normal learning process and full integration of hearing-impaired children into a productive society. We aim to empower these hearing-impaired children with the tools required to reach their full potential and to enjoy life to the fullest," said Mendoza.
"After our nationwide tour, we are capping this year’s event in our country’s capital. The uniqueness of our night race has attracted people from all walks of life enjoying running at night powered by our Energizer Headlights," said Mendoza.
"In Manila, most of the road races happen very early in the morning, whereas this race gives runners a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite sport at night in a safe way, thanks to the unstoppable power of Energizer batteries," Lee added.
