D-Link DIR-685 Gets Free Update

Proud owners of D-Link's Xtreme N DIR-685 will have more to do with their all-in-one home router starting today, as D-Link is offering a free firmware update that enhances the device's digital media content sharing capabilities.
"By meeting DLNA standards that confirm support for specific formats and features, we are now able to simply the user experience when sharing content across a home network," said Desmond Toh, Marketing Director, D-Link International. "This free firmware update ensures that all relevant formats and features are supported in the DIR-685. It will also serve to minimize confusion by assisting customers in choosing the device they want to pair the router with."
New features that were added include Digital Media Server (DMS), which allows users to transfer media files and manage DLNA-compatible devices, and Digital Media Controller (DMC), which gives users the option to control any connected UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) device using the touchpad on the DIR-685. The Digital Media Rendering (DMR) update further improves on the playback of media files on the DIR-685's LCD screen.
