Event: Enter The Dragon – GE Celebrates Lunar New Year With Photowalk Contest

Welcoming The New Year With A Bang

RedDot Philippines, authorized distributor of GE, AgfaPhoto, and Olympus PEN digital cameras, made sure to kick off the year of the Water Dragon in grand fashion, staging a photowalk competition in the heart of Manila’s Chinatown in Binondo yesterday morning. The event was opened to owners of GE’s super-zooming X5 and X500 digital cameras, aiming not only to gather the local GE user base for a fun photowalk, but also to do so in a meaningful manner where everyone can also learn a thing or two about Filipino-Chinese culture.

Long Range For Long Life

For the morning’s photowalk, RedDot lent us a GE X500 unit to play around with. The X500 headlines GE’s Power Pro series of rich-featured, made-for-the-pros lineup of digital cameras. This one in particular boasts a far-reaching 15x optical zoom (4.9mm-73.5mm, or 27mm-405mm 35mm film equivalent) range and a 16-megapixel sensor. Here are a few more specs to give you a better idea of what it can do:

  • Aperture: f/3.0-f/5.2
  • Sensitivity: Auto, ISO 80-3200
  • Shutter Speed: 1/2000-4 seconds (Manual: 30 seconds)
  • Focus Points: 13 TTL
  • Continuous Shooting: Approx. 1.39fps
  • Anti-handshake: Optical Image Stabilization (CCD-type)
  • Movie Recoring: Up to 640 x 480 pixels at 30fps/15fps; MOV format with monaural audio
  • Monitor: 2.7” 230,400-pixel TFT LCD; Electronic Viewfinder
  • Storage: Approx. 14MB internal, SD/SDHC card (up to 16GB)
  • Power: 4x AA batteries
  • Dimensions / Weight: 103 x 74 x 68mm / 350g

Given these features, the GE X500 retails at an attractive PhP 9,995, offering good value to budding digital imaging enthusiasts who feel tied down by their budgets.

Shooting For A Prosperous Year Ahead

So Who Brought Home The Baco… Err, Tikoy After The Photowalk Contest?

Well, this matter still has to be decided. The winner, according to RedDot will be announced on 15 February 2012 after being subjected to judging via the RedDot team (70% of the score), as well as fan voting via the GE Digital Cameras Phil. Facebook fan page (30%).
