Printing On The Cloud Anytime, Anywhere

HP Philippines Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) has launched its refreshed array of inkjet and laser printers that leverage on HP’s ePrint technology. Since its introduction, ePrint has been perceived synonymous with wireless printing, which HP rectified as a misconception. Going beyond the concept of wireless printing, HP explained that ePrint is a new technology that allows you to print over the cloud.

HP Philippines Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) executives headed by Mr. Armando Pascual, General Manager (far right), together with Mr. Neil Oliveros, Technical Consultant (far left), and Mr. Erwin Creencia, Market Development Manager - Inkjet and Web Solutions (middle), at the launch of new HP printers that support ePrint technology.

ePrint enables you to send a file – document, photo, presentation, spreadsheet, etc. – virtually from all types of mobile devices to a cloud-based HP server and output it as a printout through an ePrint-enabled networked printer remotely. Regardless of the platform that you use – Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, etc. – you no longer have to go through the hassle of finding and installing the right driver so that you can use HP’s ePrint service.

Why ePrint?

The number of devices connected to the Web is increasing exponentially, most of which are mobile in nature like notebooks, smartphones, and tablets. IDC has reported that the Asia Pacific region, including Japan and Korea, will gain more Internet access by 70% and almost 1 billion smartphone users will connect to the Web by 2013. Eighty-five percent of smartphone users will want to print from their device. While these mobile devices are accessing printable content from the Internet, they are at the same time responsible in creating printable content. IDC has projected a 10x growth of visual content by next year and 33% of principal information will be passed through the cloud by 2020. Riding on this trend of increased wireless connectivity and content explosion driven by mobile devices, HP has decided to introduce the ePrint service. HP is going to be the first in the industry to maximize the trend through ePrint service.

Mr. Oliveros demonstrates ePrint by sending a printable file from an iPad. The output was eventually produced using an HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw color MFP.

HP ePrint introduces a new world wherein printing can happen wirelessly and without the need for drivers, a far cry from the traditional hardwired and driver-based printing. This revolution first started a couple of years ago when HP introduced the world’s first Web-connected printer. Fast forward to the present, HP has made ePrint as an integral service across its products under the IPG, so you should not be surprised to see even large-format printers, such as those under the HP Indigo lineup, churning out printouts sent through the cloud. Since ePrint is based on the cloud, it is not difficult for HP to roll out this service throughout the Asia Pacific region. HP has developed the ePrint Web service that is firmly based on HP’s cloud ecosystem. In this ecosystem, HP’s Web-powered printers, mobile devices, and content providers can all be interconnected.

Making a printout via HP ePrint is simple. Logically, you must have an ePrint-capable HP printer then register it to the HP ePrint Web service. As long as your mobile device is capable of sending and receiving emails, it can work with an ePrint-capable HP printer. You simply send the printable content to the ePrint Web service and the remote networked printer will produce the needed printout.

Aside from offering ePrint per se, the ePrint Web service also hosts applications. Establishing relationships with various partners, among the apps that are available on the ePrint service center include Google Docs, Web Sudoku, etc.
