The New Premium – Dell Expands XPS Line With New 14z

The New XPS Experience

While the tail end of 2011 saw the arrival of the first wave of Ultrabooks, the nascent product category still has a ways to go in seriously penetrating the notebook market. In the meantime, the same manufacturers, like Dell, continue to push the performance envelope for notebooks further. In an intimate lunchtime event in the M Cafe, in Greenbelt, Makati, the company officially launched the newest addition to its premium XPS line, the 14z.

Beauty and Brawn

The Dell 14z is a 14-inch notebook that comes in a 13-inch form factor. One inch may not sound too big, but it is pretty substantial when you're talking about screen real estate, so props go to Dell for engineering the display into a more portable form factor. One inch, or rather 0.9 inches, is also the thickness of the 14z. Maybe not Ultrabook thin, but definitely portable, weighing in at just under two kilos. The slick anodized aluminium and magnesium alloy chassis houses a 750GB, 7200RPM hard drive, 8GB of DDR3 memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M with 1GB of video memory. For its CPU, you have the option to get either an Intel Core i5 or i7 chip. Both versions have the same memory, storage, and GPU specifications.

The Dell XPS 14z is now available in Dell concept stores. The Core i5 version costs PhP 65,150 while the Core i7 version costs PhP 69,590. For more information please visit Dell's official website.
