Apple's Future iPod touch to Look Like iPhone 5 and 4S

According to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will be updating their iPod touch this year "using the same in-cell display technology rumored to be used in the next iPhone". Following the rumors that the next-gen iPhone will be featuring a 4-inch display instead of a 3.5-inch one, Japanese blog Macotakara has reported that the next-gen iPod touch will follow suit as well. The device will also take a leaf out of the popular iPhone 4S; its "internals" will be based on the 4S. However, the exterior case will include a "buffed aluminum" rear shell instead, rather than the glass back of the iPhone 4S or the mirrored stainless steel of the current iPod touch.

BGR - “Though all new design iPod touch and iPod nano will be launched, growth momentum will mainly come from the latter,” Ming-Chi wrote in a note to investors on Tuesday. “The new iPod touch, like iPhone 5, uses in-cell panel, whose availability is limited in the initial stage. Shipments will therefore be hindered.”

This comes hot on the heels of Apple's Q3 FY2012 earning call which unfortunately showed that the Cupertino company performed below expectations. Will the next-gen iPhone, alleged iPad Mini and now this revamped iPod Touch help revitalize sales for Q4 FY2012 earnings? Only time will tell.
