ASUS Tackles Mobile and Desktop Computing at CES 2012

Although the CES 2012 was more focused at home entertainment systems, this year’s affair also became a playhouse for manufacturers of computing platforms, one of which was ASUS. Here are some of the products that the Taiwan-based giant showcased last week in Las Vegas.

ASUS Transformer Prime TF201

Tipped as the first tablet to feature NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor, the Transformer Prime TF201 features a Super IPS+ display, a 1080p video recording 8-megapixel camera, and a mobile dock that can extend the tablet’s battery life up to 18 hours. It is also the first tablet to have unveiled an upgrade plan for Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

ASUS Transformer 700

This 10.1-inch tablet features SonicMaster technology, a feature which was previously exclusive to ASUS’ N series notebooks. Similar to the TF201, the Transformer 700 also packs an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and f/2.4 aperture and can record 1080p videos. The tablet is pre-installed with SuperNote app for productivity.

Models under this series, such as the MeMo 171, deliver the best of both worlds, offering the versatility of a tablet and a mobile phone. It comes with a responsive 7-inch touchscreen display, connects to the Internet via 3G connection, and is bundled with a stylus and ASUS’ MeMIC Bluetooth headset. Another noteworthy model in the series is the Wi-Fi-enabled MeMO 370T which has NVIDIA’s Tegra processor.
