Instagram Races To The Top After Facebook Buyout

Facebook's astonishing US$1 billion takeover of the hugely popular photo-sharing app Instagram prompted a number of users to export all their photos and delete their accounts, citing social network's penchant for privacy problems and the potential use of the app for targeted advertising and promotion. Despite the backlash, Instagram has become the number one free application in the Apple App Store for the first time ever. So far, the app has a combined 30 million users on both iOS and Android platforms, but at the rate it's going and with the future integration into Facebook, it isn't far-fetched to expect that number to hit 50 million before the year is out.
