More Smart logos are seen on these tents. The inauguration ceremony partially resulted in a slow traffic flow along C-5 Road.

The C-5 Eastwood Footbridge is located along Eulogio Rodriguez Jr. Avenue in C-5 Road, in front of Citibank Building in Eastwood City. Included in the renovation of the footbridge is the installation of a urinal and a CCTV camera for 24/7 security. The latter is essential as Eastwood City is home for BPO and call center firms.

Smart Supports MMDA’s "Adopt-a-Footbridge" Program

Wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is supporting the project of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for the rehabilitation, improvement and maintenance of close to 80 footbridges within Metro Manila. Spearheaded by advertiser Illuminate Dynamic Media, Inc. (IDMI), the project will provide pedestrians with safer and cleaner walkways, at no additional cost to the government .

The footbridge along C5 Road in Libis, Quezon City was chosen as the pilot site and was inaugurated in simple ceremonies led by MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, together with representatives from Smart and IDMI.

Through the private-public partnership of MMDA and companies like Smart, pedestrians will benefit from the deployment of security guards and the installation of CCTV cameras in footbridges all over the metropolis. The installation of urinals adjacent to footbridges are also being studied as added convenience for the general public.

“It looks cleaner and more secure,” said Richard Remon, an employee of a call center in Libis who frequently uses the newly enhanced footbridge.

The cost of the rehabilitation will not cost MMDA a single centavo and instead, will be shouldered by advertisers like Smart.

“This is a proof that government and private companies can work hand-in-hand for a good cause. This is a good project because it directly benefits people in the community at no additional expense to the government,” said MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino in his remarks during the inauguration.

Gregorio Luna, a member of the Metro Parkway Cleaning Group of MMDA for 27 years already, is happy to be associated with the whole program. “ Maganda, maganda,” Luna said when asked about the enhanced footbridge. “Pwede pala ang ganitong klaseng tulungan. Bilang empleyado ng MMDA, proud ako”, Luna added.

On his part, Michael Aguilar, president and CEO of IDMI said, “We are happy that Smart supported the project of the MMDA. Adopt-A-Footbridge will benefit the general public, especially those who use footbridges on a daily basis.”
