Samsung Releases Value Pack for Galaxy S and Galaxy W
Samsung Releases Value Pack for Galaxy S and Galaxy W

Previously, Samsung had promised to update the Galaxy S (I9000) to Ice Cream Sandwich, but took back its words after realizing that the smartphone’s hardware is inadequate to handle the latest Android version. Like the original 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet, the Galaxy S’ RAM and ROM are insufficient to run ICS.
However, to appease Galaxy S users, the Korean giant promised instead a value pack, which is actually a Gingerbread update infused with some features of Ice Cream Sandwich. These features include face unlock, image editor, and the capability to snap photos while video recording, just to name a few.
The update has started rolling in Samsung’s native South Korea, while the exact date of availability for other regions is still not known.
In related news, the value pack for the Galaxy W (I8150) has also started rolling out OTA in Europe, starting specifically in Romania and Slovakia. The value pack for the Galaxy W includes similar features to that of the Galaxy S.
The availability of the Galaxy W value pack is not yet known for other countries, but for those who are brave enough, you may try downloading European firmware here.
On another note, the folks at Samsung Tomorrow, Samsung’s official blog, announced business closure. Per their statement:
Hello, dear readers. I am deeply saddened to announce today that we will be closing our blog. Past week’s viewership have been too low for us to persist in maintaining the URL. Your understanding will be appreciated.
Whether it is another April Fool’s joke or not, we leave that subject matter up to you.
