Super Mario Run hits 25 million downloads, fastest mobile game to do so
In just its four-day opening weekend, Nintendo’s Super Mario Run has recorded 25 million downloads – the first mobile game to hit the milestone.
Super Mario Run is estimated to have generated more than US$ 21 million in global gross revenue.
According to analytics firm, Sensor Tower, Super Mario Run is the fastest to hit this milestone. The previous title holder, Pokémon GO took 11 days to reach these downloads while the third largest mobile game launch this year, Clash Royale, hit 25 million downloads in 12 days.
Nintendo launched Super Mario Run in 150 countries, but the app is only available on one platform, and does not include the Chinese market. Within 24 hours, Apptopia estimated that Super Mario Run was downloaded 2.85 million times.
With revenue lower than what is expected, Super Mario Run is still ranked first for iPhone downloads in 75 out of 80 countries.
Meanwhile, in Japan, more than 63 percent gave it a one-star review. Majority mentions the in-app purchase price as the reason. A constant Internet connection is also needed to play the game, and the data consumption could be as high as 60MB per hour.
