Introduction and Physique

Fun-sized, Full HD

Unbeknownst to most people, HP is actually a pretty diversified company. Whenever the company’s name is mentioned, it’s usually in relation to their printers or PCs. Both of these are huge global businesses; quite possibly the biggest printer and PC businesses in the world. However, HP also manufactures other consumer electronics products such as specialized calculators, smartphones, monitors, digital cameras, and of course, digital camcorders. In this review we take a look at the t200 Full HD Digital Camcorder.

For starters, let’s check out its physique. The t200 is quite a small camcorder, making it very handy. It measures just 110mm or just over four inches long and 45mm or almost two inches wide. It is also very light at 340g, although this does make it feel a little cheap, as its construction doesn’t seem to be solidly put together. Most of it is made of exceptionally smudge-prone black plastic, except for a silver matte area on top and around the lens, which doesn't have any protective covering. The lens also lacks optical zoom, and instead has 16x digital zoom.

Since it has a 3-inch touchscreen display, the t200 only comes with a handful of physical interfaces. As with nearly all camcorders you have the zoom rocker on top by your index finger and the record button with its bright red dot right by where your thumb would go. Conveniently, the button for capturing still images is situated right above it, so you don’t have to switch between still and video camera modes. The optional power, playback, and pause buttons on the inner panel are a nice touch, but kind of redundant since you can switch the camcorder on and off by flipping the screen and all the playback buttons are available on the touch interface.
