Green wheels: E-cars showcased at the 1st ASEAN Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Summit
Carrying the theme “Strengthening Partnerships for Greener Transport in ASEAN and Beyond,” the first ASEAN EV and Hybrid Summit paraded the future of a modernized and environment-friendly automotive industry through a lineup of electric cars.
Spearheaded by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) in partnership with the Board of Investment (BOI), Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), and Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), the first electric and hybrid vehicles summit participated by ASEAN leaders and top players in the motoring and automotive business is in line with the Philippines’ hosting of the activities for the ASEAN 2017.
“Sustainability is a strategic issue for the global automotive industry. And we have the technology and innovation to show for it. Over the years, global vehicle brands have developed and adopted technologies that greatly improved the environmental performance of vehicles, giving us better fuel economy and lower emissions. Now, we are at the frontier of technology innovation that promise a greener transport for the world,” said Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, CAMPI President.
The two-day event held in World Trade Center in Pasay City hosted a series of discussions regarding the current state and future developments of electric vehicles for public transportation in the ASEAN region. Leading manufacturers also exhibited their e-cars which noticeably have common denominators of a sleek physique, reduced carbon dioxide emission, and quick-charging lithium-ion batteries.
