Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 to power flagship smartphones and even some laptops
At day one of Qualcomm’s 2nd Snapdragon Technology Summit, the big news is Qualcomm’s push into the always connected, always on, ultra-long battery life notebook powered by the Snapdragon 835 mobile platform. Specific examples that were unveiled in line with this initiative are the ASUS NovaGo and the HP ENVY x2.
Along with that, Alex Katouzian, SVP and GM of Mobile for Qualcomm Technologies very briefly unveiled the company’s next-generation mobile platform, the Snapdragon 845.
While the full features and expectations of the Snapdragon 845 will be shared tomorrow, for now, Alex shared the company’s vision to pursue a smarter, faster, safer, more immersive mobile world to power the next-generation of experiences and expectations. With the likes of smart photography features, in-device AI to speed up processing and understand personal preferences, fend of hacks and attacks with ever more security needs, preparing for 5G connectivity (super speedy connections with ultra-low latency) and longer lasting mobile experience, the next-generation mobile platform has its work cut out for it.
In conjunction with the announcement of the Snapdragon 845, ES Jung, GM of the foundry business at Samsung Electronics was at the show floor to confirm that Samsung Foundry will be the foundry for the Snapdragon 845 as both Samsung and Qualcomm will continue to work together to advance the silicon manufacturing process.
And to really seal the deal to support the China ecosystem, Xiaomi Founder, Chairman and CEO, Lei Jun graced the Snapdragon Summit and announced that the company's next flagship smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 845.
