Western Digital's Thailand Plant Recovers From Flood

The massive flooding in Thailand late last year did not only ruin the homes of thousands of Thai people, but also did plenty of damage to the places they work in. Western Digital's hard drive manufacturing plant in Bang Pa-In was almost completely submerged, rendering it inoperable. Since the plant produces major components for the company's storage products, hard drives have since been in short supply, pushing prices up, along with those of related products such as notebooks, desktop systems and other consumer electronics devices that use Western Digital hard drives. That is why in their latest earnings report, John Coyne, Western Digital president and CEO, was happy to announce that " while much work remains to be done over the next several quarters to reach our pre-flood manufacturing capabilities, the progress thus far is significantly ahead of our original expectations." This news should be a relief to both consumers and retailers around the region and around the globe who rely on storage supplies from the said company, who can safely expect prices to normalize within the year.
