The Vitara heritage

Continuing its SUV legacy of more than three decades, Suzuki Philippines (SPH) officially launched the new-generation Vitara in the Philippines. Responding to the demands of modern Filipino drivers, particularly the millennials, the new Vitara upgrades the classic look of a Suzuki SUV by incorporating modern elements that make it ideal for urban driving.

Inside and out

Exuding a strong yet sophisticated presence, the exterior design of the new Vitara features a modernized Suzuki SUV signature clamshell bonnet. The side press line and smooth roofline suggest a youthful, rugged look, and strong aerodynamic performance, complemented by the rear that provides a stable look. The Vitara measures 4175 x 1775 x 1610mm with a minimum ground clearance of 185mm, making it the longest and widest in its class with the best turning radius performance.

“Equipped with the longest and widest dimension in its class with the best radius performance, the features of the new Vitara are aimed at providing the best value in terms of design, performance, and fuel efficiency. Setting it apart from competition, the subcompact SUV allows drivers to freely express their individuality and personalize their vehicles with its wide array of colors and accessory packages,” said SPH Automobile Division General Manager Shuzo Hoshikura.

Within the sporty interiors of the Vitara, it features an instrument panel that has a youthful look. Its upper linear design includes a round clock and a round air outlet. The luggage space can accommodate up to 375L. Rear seats can be folded to make for up to 710L to accommodate large suitcases.

Under the hood, the Vitara is powered by a 1.6L engine that delivers torque performance of 156Nm at 4400rpm and maximum output of 115hp at 6000rpm. The SUV is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, paddle shifter, and audio steering control. It also features a cruise control system and a speed limiter, ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers with reverse camera that detect obstacles during parking, an automatic light system that turns headlamps and tail lamps on and off, and automatic wipers.

Safety and stability

Coming with an electronic stability program, (ESP), the SUV automatically controls the engine torque and brakes upon detection of a wheelslip to ensure directional control. In the case of an upward climb, the driver can use the vehicle's hillhold control to prevent it from rolling. Utilizing an impact-absorbing design focused on the front bumpers, the Vitara helps in keeping the passengers safe. In addition, the brake pedal release system limits the pedal's movement toward the driver, and the vehicle's Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) absorbs impact and the seatbelts use force limiter to prevent chest impact.

“Equipped with top of the line features, the new Vitara will enable the Filipino driving public to freely express their individuality through its unique design and a wide selection of colors to choose from. Apart from this, the Vitara is designed with enhanced safety features and superior fuel efficiency. Backed by all these features, we are hopeful that the new Vitara will appeal to the Philippine market especially among millennials,” Suzuki Motor Corporation Global Automobile Planning Department General Manager Nobutaka Suzuki says.
