Gionee ELIFE E7 Launch - Made for Shooting

Beyond Megapixels

More than five months after launching the ELIFE E6, Gionee is bringing another smartphone to the country. Yesterday at the SM Mall of Asia, Gionee staged the public launch of the ELIFE E7. Promoted with the marketing tagline “Made for Shooting,” the ELIFE E7’s key selling point is its imaging capability, which Gionee has perfected by taking into consideration several factors in digital imaging.

One of the key factors which Gionee focused on the ELIFE E7’s camera was pixel size. Gionee claims that while other smartphone models have larger camera resolution such as the 20.7-megapixel Sony Xperia Z1, it still compromises the overall image quality because of a smaller 1.12um pixel size. Note that in digital cameras, the larger the pixel size, the better. Compared to Xperia Z1’s pixel size, the ELIFE E7’s is larger: 1.34um. Like the ELIFE E7, the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 16-megapixel camera resolution, but its pixel size is as small as that of the Xperia Z1 and the preceding Galaxy S4.

The light-sensitive area of the ELIFE E7’s (1/2.3”) camera sensor is also larger than that of the Galaxy S5 (1/2.6”). With a larger light-sensitive area, the ELIFE E7’s camera sensor can capture more amount of light, resulting in brighter and more vibrant images. Other hardware components that make the ELIFE E7’s camera superior include a CrucialTec camera flash, Largan M8 lens, Sapphire glass + AR protective film, and a Shicoh camera motor. Complementing the 16-megapixel main camera is an 8-megapixel front-facing autofocus camera with 1.4um pixel size.

To further enhance the imaging capabilities of the ELIFE E7, Gionee has implemented a feature-packed camera user interface on the smartphone.

  • Seven Auto Modes: Normal, Portrait, Night Portrait, Backlight Portrait, Backlight, Night, and Micro.
  • Nine Filters: Lomo, Warm, Autumn, Dark Corner, Light Cyan, Fisheye, Black and White, Cartoons, Memories, and Mirror.
  • Meeting Memo Mode – this camera feature transforms captured images into PDF files. This is useful when capturing a screenshot of a presentation during business meetings.
  • Full HD video recording.

Utilizing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip, Gionee positions the ELIFE E7 as a high-end offering. The ELIFE E7 is available in two variants: a 4G LTE-ready model clocked at 2.5GHz with the 8974AC chip and a 3G-ready variant clocked at 2.2GHz with the 8974 chip. The ELIFE E7 is also available in two combinations: 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM. Regardless of the model, the ELIFE E7 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD touchscreen, runs on Android 4.2 with Amigo 2.0 UI, and is bundled with a 2500mAh battery module. Wireless standards that are supported on the ELIFE E7 include Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC, and 5GHz Wi-Fi.

Initially, Gionee is introducing the 3G variant of the ELIFE E7 for PhP 24,999 with a free speaker until April 30, 2014. The price and availability of the 4G LTE version will be revealed soon.
