In this day and age of digital transformation, we’ve been hearing a multitude of new words and phrases, among which is “digital nomads”. Who are the digital nomads? Digital nomads consist of self-employed freelancers, entrepreneurs, or full-time employees, often of startups. They are Internet-savvy individuals who can earn their living from a distance. Digressing from the traditional work approach, they move from one place to another from co-working spaces to coffee shops or beaches, both in the Philippines and other parts of the globe.

Recognizing the existence and value of digital nomads in today’s thriving digital economy, AirAsia, the world's best low-cost carrier, has reached another milestone after it successfully staged its first The Red Hub Convention in the Philippines at the The Axon at Green Sun in Makati City. Classified as a digital convention, the said event gathered digital nomads, focusing on their culture and how AirAsia helps them connect across Asia through its low-cost and efficient flying options.

Spearheaded by AirAsia Philippines CEO Captain Dexter Comendador, The Red Hub Convention brought together prominent speakers who provided valuable insights on business, work, and travel trends in the midst of the ever-changing digital landscape. The event's roster of speakers included AirAsia's Regional Chief Operations Officer Pete Chareonwongsak, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation's (MDEC) Vice President for Growth Ecosystem Development Norhizam Kadir, Hack Horizon Co-founder Johannes Jaeger, Machine Ventures CEO and Co-founder Shahab Shabibi, Hubud Co-founder and CEO Steve Munroe, Acceler8 CEO and Co-founder Mikko Barranda, Touristly CEO Aarom Sarma, and P.S. I'm On My Way's travel blogger Trisha Velarmino.

"AirAsia aims to continuously provide better connection to our guests, not only through our massive network in Asia and beyond but also through innovative, digital, and mobile solutions so they can grow and expand their experiences and network on a regional scale," Comendador said. There is a lot of talent in the region which, to date, has lacked the access and opportunities that are readily available to budding entrepreneurs in the West. Through AirAsia Red Hub Convention, we aim to provide the platform and the environment to encourage, validate, and ultimately implement new exciting ideas."

Key topics that were discussed during the Red Hub Convention include: The Future of Work which talked about the growth and expansion of the startup industry; Venture Adventures which focused on how the way we work is changing with the emergence of new, innovative economic models, and how mobility has evolved to bring new opportunities for the workforce of tomorrow; and Borderless Business which highlighted the opportunities and ease of doing business across borders, particularly for entrepreneurs in key startup economies such as Bali, China, Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Manila.
