MPTC ushers new era of e-payments by launching Digital Tollways Program
Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation officially launched on Tuesday its digital tollways program that ushers a new era of e-payment as well as aiming to build awareness on the various platforms that are available for motorists traveling across the superhighways NLEX, SCTEX, and CAVITEX.
The gracing ceremony was held at Seda Vertis North hotel with executives from MPTC and its partner firms, with James Deakin being the host of the program.
This initiative was made by the MPTC partners PayMaya Philippines, Easy Trip Services Corp., and AF payments, Inc. (AFPI) as they recognize the big role of digital technologies in transforming the experience of driving along the tollways, and enabling communities and businesses connected by the expressways.
“The use of digital payments in helping usher a new era of tollways operations in the country where consumers can enjoy faster, more secure, and more convenient electronic transactions. This is very much aligned with the National Retail Payment System program of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) that aims to transform 20% of the country’s payment transactions into electronic by 2020,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman of MPTC.
“Enabling electronic transactions in the tollways is a key contributor in growing electronic money usage as thousands of motorists use our expressways every day. With this initiative, we are offering Filipinos more options that can suit their lifestyle and personal preferences,” said Rodrigo E. Franco, Metro Pacific Tollways President, and CEO.
The MPTC Digital Tollways Program enables motorists to pay toll fees using Easy Trip RFID, Mastercard contactless cards, and beep cards, as well as other prepaid and credit cards including the Smart Mastercard powered by PayMaya while traversing the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
The card is backed by over 15,000 reloading stations nationwide and is ideal for motorists who shop and pay bills at the same time since it works anywhere Mastercard is accepted, be it even online and abroad.
Meanwhile, Mastercard acceptance for Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) will commence soon. And soon, motorists will be able to use Visa contactless debit, prepaid, and credit cards as a toll payment option.
“With these payment options, motorists will experience an even more seamless, convenient, and hassle-free travel at NLEX, SCTEX, and CAVITEX,” added Franco.
“We are thrilled to launch the digital tollways campaign with MPTC. The impact of digital transformation in the toll roads space will not only bring a whole new level of convenience to consumers but also place the country at the forefront of the region’s digital global economy,” said Orlando B. Vea, President, and CEO of PayMaya Philippines.
