Transcend StoreJet 500: Space and Speed

Transcend’s StoreJet 500 is a portable Solid State Drive for Macintosh. It’s equipped with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 interfaces that offer higher transfer rates. The storage space ranges from 256GB to 1TB.

First things first: it’s not true that this portable SSD is exclusive for Mac computers. The Transcend StoreJet 500 just happens to have a Thunderbolt connectivity that lets Mac users transfer files through a specifically designed connection port for faster speed. For non-Mac users, you’ll enjoy the same amount of speed with the StoreJet 500’s USB 3.0 connection. Initially, it’s formatted to HFS+ file system that is compatible with Mac. We had to reformat the SSD into NTFS or exFAT so that we can use it on our benchmark PC.

Upon holding the StoreJet 500 for the first time, it felt sharp and elegant, yet prone to accidental slip. The chassis seemed like it won’t resist an accidental drop as the StoreJet 500 felt too light. Unlike the StoreJet 1000 that landed on our workshop few weeks ago, the SJM500’s bundle didn’t include a rubber sleeve to protect its body. It comes with a travel pouch, though.

The next test we did was to put it under the HD Tune Pro challenge. It didn’t meet the speed we were expecting, but the results was close enough to what it should be.

Transcend StoreJet 500 has the space and speed you need. It also matches the sleek look of a Macbook Pro. If you're looking for a portable SSD and you’re a sleeve and case type of person, this one definitely fits your style and its sharp yet fragile-ish built will never be an issue.
