Is the Aorus X5 the world's most powerful 15-inch laptop?

The Aorus X5 looks similar to the other laptops in Aorus' X series.

Somebody should tell Aorus that they should stop for awhile and let their competitors catch up, because at the rate the company's going, we might be seeing triple or quad SLI notebooks soon just because the company's run out of ways to push the envelop.

We've reviewed the Aorus X7 Pro previously, and found out that it was (and still is) an incredible beast of a notebook, tempered only by the juggernaut that is the Aftershock Titan V2.1. While the just announced Aorus X5 is nowhere near as powerful as the X7, it's no slouch either. Powered by dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965Ms (yes, this isn't a typo but due to an embargo we can't say more about it), the machine is said to exceed the power of a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980. Like Aorus' other machines in the X series, this one will be lighter than most notebooks too, with an estimated weight of under 2.5 kilograms.

As if the raw horsepower under the hood wasn't enough to make heads turn, Aorus also decided to step up their game and introduce a new display for the machine. Unlike the other notebooks in Aorus' X series, the X5 is the only one with a 4K IGZO display. IGZO's a new emerging technology that one may be the standard in high resolution displays. Unlike convention displays, those using IGZO use less power and can be of a much higher resolution (in this case, 3840 x 2160). The bottom line is that despite running two graphics cards, the X5 will require less overall power than a similarly geared system with a normal Full HD display.

Other than those details, much of the Aorus X5 is still under wraps. We don't know what the processor is, what type of RAM it'll use or even how much storage it'll have. With an expected Q2 2015 release, the notebook's still a few months off, which should be more than enough time to save up the cash for it.
