Apple unveils water-resistant iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

See the difference? While both models have the same 12-megapixel camera, the iPhone 7 Plus adds a telephoto camera to its schema.

Apple unveiled the first water and dust resistant iterations of its successful iPhone lineup: the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. Apple achieved this feat by employing an entirely reengineered enclosure which will be available in silver, gold, rose gold, matte black, and jet black colors.

But the real beauty of the new iPhone models is on the inside. The new models run on Apple’s A10 Fusion CPU which consists of four cores: two of which are designed to make them run twice as fast as the iPhone 6, whereas the remaining two cores are intended for longer battery life. Graphics performance is also jacked up, promising up to three times better performance than the iPhone 6. Both phones support up to 25 LTE bands and LTE Advanced.

AirPods add wireless communication as a new feature to the two new iPhone models.

In terms of audio, they are two times louder than the iPhone 6s and come with EarPods with a Lightning connector, bundled with a 3.5mm headphone jack adapter. They cost USD 29 and USD 9, if purchased separately. There is also the new AirPods: wireless headphones that use Apple’s W1 chip for efficient wireless communication, retailing for USD 159.

Another highlight of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus is their camera systems. The iPhone 7 makes use of a 12-megapixel camera that has a larger f/1.8 aperture and 6-element lens. The iPhone 7 Plus’ wide-angle camera boasts the same megapixel count, but it also adds a telephoto camera, achieving up to 2x optical zoom and 10x digital magnification. Additional camera enhancements include: depth-of-field effect, Image Signal Processor for image processing that is as fast as 25 milliseconds, 7-megapixel FaceTime HD camera, and Quad-LED True Tone flash that is 50% brighter than that of the iPhone 6s. Both models can record 4K videos.

The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will be available in more than 25 countries starting September 16. China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan are among the first countries in Asia to receive new iPhone love on the said date. There is no word on local availability, but Apple Philippines’ website is already up with the teaser at the time of writing.
