DJI has officially launched its first mini drone that can lift off from the palm of user’s hand, the Spark.

The DJI Spark is the first drone that users can control by hand gestures alone. When it takes off from your hand, it automatically enters Gesture Mode that lets users control the drone with hand movements. With this, users can fly the Spark, take a selfie, and call it back to your hands.

“Controlling a camera drone with hand movements alone is a major step towards making aerial technology an intuitive part of everyone’s daily life, from work and adventure to moments with friends and family,” Kevin On, DJI’s Director of Communication, said.

“Spark’s revolutionary new interface lets you effortlessly extend your point of view to the air, making it easier than ever to capture and share the world from new perspectives,” he added.

The Spark has QuickShot Intelligent Flight Mode that makes creating professional videos fun and easy. Four QuickShots are available: Rocket, sending Spark straight up into the air with the camera pointed down; Dronie, flying up and away from your subject; Circle, rotating around the subject; and Helix, spiraling away from a subject as it flies upward.

Meanwhile, Spark also boasted the previously introduced Intelligent Flight Modes such as TapFly and ActiveTrack.

Aside from these, operators can switch to Sport Mode to achieve the drone’s speed potential of up to 31mph or 50kph. It is equipped with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor that can capture photos of up to 12 megapixels and stabilized HD 1080p videos under normal flight mode.

The local retail price of the DJI Spark, including an aircraft, battery, USB charger, and three pairs of propellers, is PhP 30,500, while the Spark Fly More Combo is priced at PhP 42,700. It includes aircraft, two batteries, four pairs of propellers, remote control, propeller guards, charging hub, shoulder bag, and all necessary cables.
