Facebook introduces new safety resources for its Filipino community

Mia Garlick, Director of Safety, Facebook APAC, at the Facebook Media workshop

Facebook has introduced new resources and tips for safe and secure sharing to ensure the safety of its 54 million active communities in the Philippines.

Facebook also outlined the technology, tools, and resources to keep its community and information safe and secure at the media workshops in Manila, Davao, and Cebu.

The new Facebook Safety Center, which is now available in over 50 languages including Tagalog, is now mobile friendly and includes step-by-step videos to help users stay in control and safe using their social media account.

“From text messages to video chat – the way we connect with each other has significantly changed over time. The trend is clear – connecting becomes faster, more efficient, more immersive. At Facebook, we’re helping 54 million people in the Philippines connect and share with their family and friends and the things that matter to them. These people will only come to Facebook if it’s a safe place to connect and share with the people they care about. That’s why we invest in technology, controls, Community Standards, and education to help keep people and their information safe and secure. These controls and technology are powerful, but only when people know about them. We are constantly listening and learning, and are committed to developing resources with local safety partners and experts to help keep our community in the Philippines safe,” Mia Garlick, Director of Safety, Facebook APAC, said.

This update also brings awareness to bullying. The Facebook’s Bullying Prevention Hub is a resource for teens, parents, and educators seeking guidance on how to prevent and address bullying.

Facebook invests in technology, controls, and education to help users and their information safe and secure.

Privacy and technology is built into every Facebook product and design. To catch threats and remove it before they reach users, Facebook’s security systems run in the background millions of times per second. Facebook also completes around 80 trillion object privacy checks each day.

Facebook users also have an extensive control. Users can choose exactly who can see their post. For better controls, users can check their activity log, enable login approvals, built-in strength of friend connections, ad preferences, page moderation tools, and legacy contact.

Facebook also allows users to have their Community Standards which are designed to create an environment where people feel motivated and empowered to treat each other with empathy and respect.

Facebook also has easy reporting so users can easily report content they believe might violate Facebook’s Community Standards.
