GMA New Media Inc. (NMI), the technology arm of GMA Network, has unveiled a prototype of its upcoming digital television product that transforms screens into smart televisions.

GMA New Media President, Judd Gallares, first showed the receiver showing the digital transmission from GMA-7 and GMA News TV. He then demonstrated how the device turned the television into a smart TV that is able to play on-demand content, and can even run chat applications and games.

The new NMI product is not just a receiver for digital televisions, but also a digital media set-top box. GMA New Media revealed that they already received a patent for their innovation.

Digital TV receivers and digital media set-top boxes running on the Android platform are already available in the market. There is no product in the market right now that combines both.
