Google to launch a localized version of Play Store in China next year

Five years after pulling out of the Chinese market, Google is planning to make a comeback with the launch of the China version of its Play Store app next year.

According to Reuters, people familiar with the matter claim that the Google Play Store is set up specifically for the Chinese market and will not be connected to other overseas versions of the app. To launch the Play Store app in China, Google is likely to comply with the Chinese regulations on content filtering and host the app store's data within China.

Google also plans to launch other products and services after establishing the Play Store in China, but is reportedly deciding on what to launch next. While setting up a localized app store is a symbolic gesture to show how important the Chinese market is, Google is expected to face stiff competition from local content providers.
