HKTDC to strengthen bilateral trade between PH and HK through April and May fairs
Neighboring countries Hong Kong and the Philippines have enjoyed robust bilateral trade relations on a range of products and services over the years.
Adding to Hong Kong’s business advantages, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has been organizing more than 30 exhibitions each year to bring together buyers and suppliers from around the world, allowing homegrown companies to develop their international market.
HKTDC's Singapore Office Director Vivienne Chee announced that eight international fairs covering lighting, electronics, ICT, housewares, home textiles and furnishings, gifts, printing and packaging as well as medical industries will be held in Hong Kong in April and May, which will offer ideal platforms for traders and suppliers from the Philippines to expand their businesses into new markets.
They are the following:
• Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition)
• Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition)
• International ICT Expo
• Hong Kong Houseware Fair
• Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair
• Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair
• Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair
• Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair
Chee said that in 2017, HKTDC’s 30 fairs attracted more than 39,000 exhibitors from over 90 countries and regions, and over 740,000 buyers from over 200 countries and regions. Among them, there were close to 80 exhibitors and over 7,700 buyers from the Philippines, showing how our companies are keen to seek business opportunities through this platform.
The Philippines is HK’s 12th largest trading partner. Last year, the total trade between these two countries reached USD 13.4 million, or up by 23% compared to 2016. Also, the Philippines was Hong Kong’s 19th major export market with a total export value of USD 3.6 billion and 10th largest import source with an import value of USD 9.8 billion.
Supported by a combination of international quality exhibitors and buyers, the fairs offer a one-stop marketing and sourcing platform, and represent prime opportunities for traders to gather the latest market intelligence.
“We are in close ties with each other. Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is delighted to give a hand to boost trade and strengthen this bilateral relation. With our concerted effort, I’m sure more trade opportunities will continuously be developed between Hong Kong and the Philippines.” said Chee.
Each year, HKTDC has been holding more than 30 exhibitions in Hong Kong, from which form the eleven largest marketplaces of their kind in Asia, including Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) and Hong Kong Houseware Fair; five are the largest in the world, namely the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show cum the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show; Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) cum electronic Asia; Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) cum World of Outdoor Lighting & Lighting Accessories; Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair; and Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair.
