HTC Outs Desire 610 and 816 Midrange Smartphones at MWC 2014

The HTC Desire 816 is a prototpye, hence we were not allowed to touch or test it.

While HTC is one month away from updating its One flagship smartphone, the Taiwanese phone maker refreshed the Desire portfolio at Mobile World Congress 2014.

The Desire 610 and 816 are part of the company's renewed strategy to target the mid-range market segment. Therefore, their specs are nothing to shout about. For example, both smartphones come with 8GB internal storage and their microSD memory card slots can support up to 128GB.

Based purely on specs, the Desire 816 is better equipped. It has a 5.5-inch 720p display, a 13-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and an aperture of F2.2, and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.6GHz processor.

On the other hand, the Desire 610 has a 4.7-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display, an 8-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and an aperture of f2.4. Software-wise, it runs on the same Sense 5.5 and Android 4.4 KitKat. Both devices also support 4G LTE connectivity.

HTC states that the Desire 610 will be available across Europe in May while the Desire 816 will be in China from March.
