Huawei, Leica strengthen partnership with joint R&D Center

After a successful partnership first announced in February, Huawei and Leica continue their collaboration with a new joint R&D center located at Leica’s global headquarters in Wetzlar, Germany.

Dubbed as “The Max Berek Innovation Lab” named after Max Berek, the German pioneer of microscopy and creator of the first Leica lenses, Leica and Huawei’s R&D center will be focusing on conducting studies about imaging and optical systems, computational imaging, virtual reality, and augmented reality, and will "drive further development of optical systems and software-based technologies to improve imaging quality in a wide range of photographic and mobile device applications."

Huawei and Leica’s prior partnership resulted to the launch of the Huawei P9 and the Huawei P9 Plus smartphones that sport a dual-lens camera co-engineered by Leica.
