Lazada expands e-commerce opportunity through Online Revolution Sale

Leading e-commerce portal Lazada is once again hosting Southeast Asia’s biggest online shopping event with prices of selected items on their 28 million local and international products marked down to up to 95 percent.

The shopping event dubbed as Online Revolution Sale with the theme “Shop the Universe” will take place in different product categories from November 9 to December 12 with two sets of Mega Day Sale slated on November 9 to 11 and December 7 to 12.

During the Online Revolution Sale media launch, Lazada Co-Founder and CEO Inanc Balci shared that the campaign is in line with making the Philippines as one of the top e-commerce country in the world which they plan to achieve by tapping more than 60 million monthly active Filipino Facebook users.

Balci also mentioned that he personally promised President Rodrigo Duterte about this feat in a courtesy call with Alibaba founder Jack Ma. Lazada became a part of Alibaba group of company in 2016 with 83 percent ownership.

“Philippines used to be the SMS capital of the world before social media. Philippines is the number one in terms of Facebook penetration. Before, SMS, and now, it’s Facebook. So where it is going? In my opinion, it’s going e-commerce,” Balci said.

“When you look at Facebook, Philippines has more than 60 million active monthly users. All of these 60 million people are potential customers. And we’re thinking of how we are going to make these 60 million people as e-commerce customers,” the executive added.

According to Balci, Lazada is targeting to tally about a hundred percent growth in website visits during the duration of the campaign as they are expecting 150 million website visits. Last 2016, Lazada jotted 74 million website visits.

Balci also emphasized that the Online Revolution campaign will not benefit Lazada alone, as it is an opportunity for small to large businesses to expose their products to more than 10 million e-commerce participants in the Philippines, and to boost the current 1.5 percent contribution of e-commerce in the over-all retail sales in the country.

The Online Revolution Sale will also be participated by new brands in Lazada including the Taobao collection from China. Some of the discounted products to score from this sale are the HP Deskjet 1112 printer (sale price PhP 899, orginal price PhP 2,500), Acer Chromebook Celeron 11.6" Chrome OS (sale price PhP 9,499, original price PhP 12,999), Infinix Note 4 (sale price PhP 5,799, original price PhP 18,000), ASUS ZenFone 3 Laser (sale price PhP 7,299, original price PhP 11,995), Sharp 50-inch FHD LED TV LC-50LE275X (sale price PhP 19,799, original price 29,999), Epson L120 (sale price 4,269, orginal price PhP 4,999), and Lenovo Yoga 300 (sale price PhP 11,599, original price PhP 17,995), among others.
