A Lighter, Thinner Nokia Lumia 920 Successor?

Polycarbonate is the standard material used in most Nokia Lumia devices today.

If the bulky form factor of the Nokia Lumia 920 is what makes you hesitate to purchase the Windows Phone 8 (WP8) device, you will be glad to know that Nokia is working on a thinner and lighter successor.

According to The Verge, sources familiar with Nokia's plans have revealed that the Finnish company will be using an aluminum body for at least one high-end WP8 model. The device, codenamed Catwalk, is expected to be thinner and lighter than the existing Lumia 920. It is slated for a release later this year.

Besides sporting a thinner and lighter aluminum chassis, Catwalk is alleged to come with similar internal hardware components. Therefore, do not be surprised if the device does not come with a quad-core processor, which should power many competing Android phones launching this year. Nokia is also reported to be considering another two Lumia devices that will launch as part of its new lineup for 2013.

Switching to an aluminum construction for its flagship models will benefit Nokia, as it can differentiate its devices from the crowd of polycarbonate-clad competitors such as the HTC One X+.
