McDonald’s, PayMaya join forces for convenient, cashless transactions

In the advent of cashless payments in the country, PayMaya, the digital financial services arm of PLDT’s Voyager Innovations, has sealed a partnership with McDonald’s Philippines to bring easier and convenient digital payment options to PayMaya card users and McDonald’s customers.

“This is digital technology at its most convenient, and we are working toward enabling more partners like McDonald’s to further build a ‘cashless’ ecosystem all around the country,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman at PLDT, Smart, and PayMaya. “We’re starting with McDonald’s today, but we enivision a future where most of our transactions will be carried out with the help of a PayMaya account.”

Through the said partnership, McDonald’s will roll out over-the-counter Mastercard and Visa card transactions which will be initially implemented on over 40 McDonald’s branches. In the next few weeks, PayMaya QR payments will also be accepted in McCafe BGC Arts Center and McCafe Tagaytay Calamba stores, with more stores to follow in the coming months.

QR-based payments is a new way paying for purchased goods that can be done just by scanning the QR code displayed at the cashier area and verify transaction using customers’ smartphones.

In addition, McDonald’s will soon allow online booking and payment for McCelebration Birthday Party packages.

The said partnership is also a part of a big digital roadmap for McDonald’s Philippines which they’ve been starting to implement seven years ago. According to Margot Torres, Deputy Managing Director and Executive Vice President of McDonald’s Philippines, this all boils down to providing the best customer experience.

“When it comes to the digital roadmap for McDonald’s, we started with digital engagement through social. The natural aspect that we have to look at when it comes to the digital roadmap is e-commerce. For the past seven years, we have done a lot of tests with various partners and we have found our perfect match with PayMaya,” Torres said during the partnership’s press event held in Taguig City.

“PayMaya is able to not just offer a solution at the front counter for the customers. The experience now is something our customers would really appreciate. It is not just a one-time thing for the front counter, this is definitely a roadmap – a long term partnership with PayMaya. If we would find new innovations that may not even exist today, we are really counting on PayMaya as a trusted partner,” she added.
