Motorcycle Development Program Association, Inc. (MDPPA) reported 13% sales growth in the first half of 2017, projecting that they are on track to achieve its motorcycle sales forecast of 8% to 12% increase for this year.

MDPPA members include Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kymco. The brands recorded a total of 613,896 motorcycle units sold, 13% up from 544,788 total units sold during the same period last year.

The association is confident of maintaining the strong sales momentum for the rest of the year to match the growing market demand.

“Besides the good economy and more people having increased purchasing power, the strong market performance for the first six months of 2017 reflects the continued bullish demand for motorcycles. This is because motorcycles provide a practical and effective transportation alternative in the face of the worsening traffic conditions, particularly in Metro Manila. They are also very trendy and cost-efficient,” MDDPA President Armando Reyes said.

Apart from this, MDPPA boasted that the Philippines achieved the biggest sales volume growth in the ASEAN region. Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand all had 7% increase in sales.

Meanwhile, MDPPA has ended 2016 by reaching 1-million sales marks for the first time.
