We saw this coming - Microsoft is planning to drop the "Nokia" and "Windows Phone" branding for its future mobile devices.

According to GeekOnGadgets, a leaked confidential internal document revealed that Microsoft will be using "Lumia" as the hero branding for upcoming mobile devices. The Lumia 830 and 730, which were announced recently, are the two final devices to launch with the "Nokia" brand.

A source with knowledge of the plans also told the publication that Microsoft wants to merge the mobile OS (Windows Phone) with its desktop version in a future update. What this means is that you are likely to see the standard "Windows" logo without the "Phone".

Microsoft announced a year ago that it was acquiring Nokia's Devices and Service unit for US$7.2 billion. The deal was completed in late April and Nokia informed its business supplier base to use Microsoft Mobile Oy as the new legal entity name.
