Nintendo Urged to Back Apple iOS, Port Popular Franchises to iPhone, iPad

Nintendo 3DS

A report from AppleInsider states that Masamitsu Ohki, a fund manager at Stats Investment Management Co. is convinced that Nintendo should find a way to enter the rapidly growing smartphone market as it is becoming the dominant platform for mobile gaming. Nintendo's stock jumped when word came out that a version of Nintendo's successful Pokemon franchise would be coming to both Apple and Android mobile devices, but went down again as Nintendo reiterated that it has no intention of fully supporting competing devices. Despite the slow sales of their 3DS portable gaming device due to higher sales of Apple's mobile devices, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata insists that a lack of titles at launch is the main reason for the 3DS' lackluster debut. If Nintendo remains firm on their stance, one option they may take is to release a Nintendo phone/gaming device similar to rivals Sony and Microsoft with its Xbox Live support in its Windows Phone 7 mobile OS.
