PayMaya, The SM Store introduces new campaign for cashless payments

After a successful partnership with fast food chain McDonald’s, PayMaya is taking the breakthrough of cashless payments to the retail industry as it partners with The SM Store to provide consumers a more convenient and innovative way of shopping using the PayMaya QR.

Present during the #TheSMStorexPayMaya partnership launch were PLDT, Smart, Voyager and PayMaya Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan (third from left); The SM Store President Chelo C. Monasterio (third from right); PayMaya President and CEO Orlando B. Vea (second from left); Smart Vice President for Wireless Key Accounts Development Precy Katigbak (second from right); SM Mart, Inc. Executive Vice President for Controllership Ricky A. Lim (rightmost); PayMaya COO and Managing Director Paolo Azzola (leftmost).

“More and more Filipinos are using cashless payments with PayMaya, and we’re excited to work with like-minded companies such as SM in innovating on the retail shopping experience with the help of our payment technologies. With companies like SM taking the lead, we’ll see PayMaya QR in a lot more stores and establishments all around the country,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman at PLDT, Smart Voyager, and PayMaya.

Through the PayMaya QR, shoppers at The SM Store can just open their PayMaya app, tap the “Scan” button, and point their phones at the special QR codes displayed at The SM Store’s Mobile Pay lanes to complete their transactions. This service has been available in all branches of The SM Store nationwide since December of last year.

PayMaya also has an introductory promo which entitles shoppers a 10% rebate (up to PhP 100 per branch, per day) on their purchases whenever they transact using the PayMaya QR at The SM Store from January 15, 2018 – April 15, 2018. In addition, shoppers can earn an entry for a chance to win a brand new iPhone X for every PhP 1000 spend.

In the campaign launch held in the fashion hall of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong, Orlando B. Vea, President and CEO at PayMaya Philippines said that the launch of the QR code payment system reveals a revolution in retail and finance.

“The QR code that we’re launching today is not just an alternative means of paying. It’s actually a digital shift – a quantitative and qualitative digital shift. For merchants, it’s a way of engaging more and developing brand affinity in the market. And of course, the economy in general, it accelerates the process of transactions,” Vea shared.

“We want to be with SM as we develop the cashless means of paying in the retail industry,” he added.

According to Paolo Azzola, Managing Director and COO of PayMaya Philippines, the partnership puts the Philippines in the map of payments technology.

“There are two key elements of this partnership. The first one is it really puts the Philippines on the map in terms of payments technology. With this, we’re at the forefront of global payments technology. The second thing is we’re now enriching the experience of shoppers. We always make sure that the customer experience is at the forefront of everything we do,” Azzola said.

For SM Prime Holdings Inc. part, the launch of PayMaya QR code payment in The SM Store is a strong move in adapting to the digital shift in the retail industry.

“The acceptance of PayMaya QR in The SM Store is an example of adaptation to changes. It also creates a smooth and a very convenient way of taking care of our customers. This is also in line with our strategy for the past couple of years to provide fresh product offerings and quality shopping experience in The SM Store,” said Chelo C. Monasterio, The SM Store President.

“The retail landscape is changing, and we are proud to lead the way with partners like PayMaya,” she furthered.

The SM Store is another addition to PayMaya’s growing list of partner stores including all Smart Stores nationwide, Pioneer Street Market, Army Navy, The Yard Timog food park, Hue Hotel and Resorts, Station X in Boracay, and Fairmont Makati, among others. Payment thru PayMaya is also acceptable in online shopping portals Lazada and Zalora.
