Smart Communications ushers in a new era of wireless technology by introducing “5G” LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) in the country. Smart switched on LTE-A at the Smart Jump Center in Mandaluyong City, two years after the telco giant deployed the 4G LTE standard. Described as “5G” wireless technology by global mobile operators AT&T and T-Mobile, LTE-A is capable of delivering data rates between 100Mbps to 1Gbps, twice as fast as the current 4G LTE services. With LTE-A, subscribers can download a 10MB file in less than a second, watch buffer-less YouTube videos, and experience lag-free video calls. Smart started testing LTE-A in various parts of the country last year, yielding results of more than 100Mbps in Boracay, Makati City, and in Davao City during the Kadayawan festival. Smart Communications is now among the few mobile operators offering LTE-A worldwide.
