Starmobile, Smart Inc. spearhead 1st PH VoLTE call
The Philippine’s first public Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) call made on the new VoLTE-capable Starmobile FeatureSmart Evo 1 was conducted at the Smart Retailer Conference in the Smart Araneta Coliseum and headed by the Filipino Mobile manufacturer Star Telecom (Starmobile) and wireless leader Smart Communications Inc..
In the presence of PLDT-Smart Chair and CEO Manuel Pangilinan and PLDT-Smart Chief Technology and Information Advisor Joachim Horn, the call on the feature phone was made at the Owner’s Circle Lounge.
VoLTE makes use of 4G LTE connectivity, deviating from the regular calls made on 2G and 3G networks for sending and receiving voice data.
“This is a momentous event and Starmobile is proud to be part of this pioneering effort,” said Starmobile COO Michael Chen.
When placing a call, users don’t have to experience the five- to ten-second waiting time, because 4G LTE is capable of ‘Fast Call Setup’ aside from its static-free calls.
“Today, high quality voice calls like you never thought possible is now a reality. With the new and affordable Starmobile Feature Smart Evo 1, we are making this world class, cutting edge technology accessible to our fellow Filipinos,” Chen added.
The VoLTE is competent in using the data that causes better sound quality and can be compared to the more popular VolP or “Voice over Internet” services.
Moreover, VoLTE-capable handsets are recommended for both the caller and the receiver on a VoLTE-enabled network to get a better use of it.
Meanwhile, in areas not reached by the service, the Starmobile FeatureSmart Evo 1 is still capable of making a regular call of 2G or 3G.
