At this point, smartphones and tablets that are running on Android OS have reached a certain level of maturity. The market is rife with new brands and a wide variety of product models that are on offer at competitive price points. Previously exclusive to a niche market composed of technology enthusiasts and moneyed consumers, smartphones and tablets are now accessible to the masses.

As a case in point, Philippine-based Torque has released the DROIDZ Dash X which has an enticing price of PhP 2,999. A 7-inch tablet, the DROIDZ Dash X has a display resolution of 800 x 480 and supports multi-touch. Within, it is powered by a 1.2GHz processor coupled with 512MB RAM and carries an internal storage of 4GB. On the imaging front, the DROIDZ Dash X touts a dual camera system, sporting a VGA camera in front and a 2-megapixel main camera. The tablet supports HD (1080p) video playback, Wi-Fi, and 3G dongles. It also has a Micro USB connector and can support up to 32GB of microSD storage. Although the DROIDZ Dash X runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), Torque’s Facebook fan page shows that it can be upgraded to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
